A new Sytist update (2.5) is now available and some of the changes include:
And a lot more.
Click here for the complete change log for this update.
How to update:
The first time each day you log into the admin it will check for the update. If you have already logged into your admin today , then you won't get the notice until tomorrow.
If you are currently using version Sytist 1.0.0 or higher, you can have it check for the update again by clicking on Settings in the main menu. Then scroll down and below the left menu, click MySQL query. Copy the following line of code, paste it in the query box and click run.
UPDATE ms_history SET upgrade_check='';
Then return to your admin home page.
If the auto update feature won't work for you for some reason, you will have to manually update.
When using the auto update from the admin and it seems to hang when trying to unzip, then the ZIP functions are probably not enabled in the PHP on your hosting. You can contact your host and ask them to enable the ZIP functions in PHP.
- New Advanced Page Design & Page Templates (More about this feature and video tutorial)
- Added a "client" dropdown menu option for the main menu to group together all of the client options. (More info)
- Added sharpening to processed photos (small & large). This will be on by default. You can be disabled in Settings -> Photo Settings. (More info)
- Added project proofing actions under thumbnails and to mobile.
And a lot more.

I could have sworn there was a MySQL Query you could use to force the admin to recheck for an upgrade notice. Can you help me with this please?

Hi Tim,
The new page designer looks great and will be a very useful feature.
However the text alignment doesn't seem to work on most elements.
Using latest Firefox and Safari

Dave

Yes it doesn't move at all but I have just noticed that it only happens on pasted text.
Some other styling features seem to not work on pasted text either, I think it's possibly because the html attributes are pasted in also.

When you paste text, paste as plain text. CTRL + SHIFT + V works in chrome and I think firefox is the same way. Right click should have a paste as plain text option too.
Copy and pasting can have hidden HTML elements and probably what is happening.

Cheers, I have just noticed also that rows with multiple elements are bound by the rows styles when it comes to alignment not the individual element.
So in columns I can't align the text of say a header or text element unless I set it in the whole row which affects all text in all elements.
Just thought I'd let you know .

How exactly are you having trouble? Are you able to select files? If so, does it show it uploading? What size photo are you uploading?

I'm having a problem uploading images too. The upload process completes without generating an error message, but the image is never actually displayed. There's just a gray box where the image is supposed to be.

The issue is a bug with Sytist being installed in a sub folder so it is adding the wrong link for the photo when uploaded. I will be putting out an update tomorrow to fix it.

Tim, 2.5 is a great update! I've been going crazy applying new styles to my services pages.
I'm having a problem stylizing my eGift Card page. I have a top level page with only [GIFT_CERTIFICATES] on it per the original instructions. Now, I'd like to use the new slick editor to really spruce it up. All of the Design Elements get added after the [GIFT_CERTIFICATES] code on the page.
I tried adding the [GIFT_CERTIFICATES] to a Design Element text box, but it is not being parsed.
How do I control the look and feel of the page when [GIFT_CERTIFICATES] is used?
Thanks!

The [GIFT_CERTIFICATES] code will not work within the page designer at this time. You would have to add it to the regular page text when editing the page in the admin, but it will show above the page design content. One option would be to add a button to that page and have it show the purchase egift card window when clicked (a link option when editing the button).

This update will not download! When I try to unzip the update, all it does is keep spinning. I do not use an FTP, so I cannot do the update the manual way. It would be nice to get this fixed so I can get the update, after all I did pay for updates.

Will it not download or will it not unzip?
Quoting from the first post at the top of this page
When using the auto update from the admin and it seems to hang when trying to unzip, then the ZIP functions are probably not enabled in the PHP on your hosting. You can contact your host and ask them to enable the ZIP functions in PHP.

Mr. Davis,
I appreciate your response, but I know Tim kinda has some strange hours. Needless to say, I am not the only one having issues with the update and I am now more that frustrated and on the verge of becoming upset.
So, an update to this issue.....
I called GoDaddy yet again and after arguing with the person who took my call to get me to someone in the tech department, after 20 minutes, she finally transferred me to someone who knew something. After explaining to him what I needed, the lady that transferred me told him a totally different story. When I read Tim's advice, he knew what I needed and directed me through my CPanel admin page. When we got to the correct page, he had noticed that the PHP version had defaulted to the new Beta version 7.1, which still had many red flags and issues. He had me switch back to Version 7.0 and then took me through a step-by-step talk of my PHP settings, where we found the "ZIP" box unchecked. He had me check the ZIP box and save the settings and waited on the phone while I tried the Sytist Update and it worked perfectly. We then went through all the other settings and made sure the boxes that needed to be checked were in fact checked.
I AM NOT a computer guru and not tech savvy with computers. I knew there had to be an issue somewhere, because I never had issues in the past with updates. I get frustrated extremely easy when things do not work as they should and I certainly owe Tim an apology for being so frustrated. I know now where to go in my CPanel Hosting site to check these settings in the future. Thank you, Tim, for giving us a great website product and I apologize.

Have you tried manual install the files using FTP?
I've seen folders and files sometimes not load correctly using the auto install. Just one missing file or folder can cause issues.
I agree a couple people appear to have issues, but there are many that work just fine.

Again, I am not computer savvy and have no clue how to use FTP. I have the issue now fixed (read my last response).
If anyone else is having issues and you have CPanel Hosting through GoDaddy, I can pretty much guarantee I know what the issue is.

Glad it is now working for you. If the hosting companies would NOT change things without first telling us, that would make a huge difference.

It's amazing how many times larger hosting companies change things without any notice and those changes include certain functions disappearing. It causes me a lot of frustration too. Glad it is sorted.

Tim,
I had that same discussion with the tech at GoDaddy. He was surprised that my CPanel automatically updated to the Beta version. He is going to look into that and see what needs to be done to prevent it from happening. Once he walked me through where to go in my CPanel and what to change, the update worked perfectly. If there are others who have CPanel through GoDaddy and they are having issues with the update, I am sure this may be their issue as well. Making the changes is easy and I could probably take screenshots and put together a .pdf for the steps involved.

Joe,
I can understand your frustration with this. When I first started out with Sytist, I jumped right into Godaddy for the domain and hosting services, with little to no knowledge of how they work. Over time, I realized I been dealing with them on the phone or email for problems all the time. It shouldn't be that way for such a simple service.
After about six months of issues with the site and it had nothing to do with Sytist at all, it was Godaddy and whatever they do. I can tell you this, Godaddy was slow, had hosting/server issues all the time when I needed everything to work right.
Well, now I know why Tim recommends Saratogahosting for hosting with Sytist. The service is excellent, and everything is done right the first time. The servers are super speedy, and since making the switch over six months ago, I couldn't be any happier. Since the switch, I haven't' had to call or both them over there at all, finally something that works like it suppose from the beginning. I highly recommend Saratoghosting and if you or anyone in the future is thinking about it, just do it!
As for Tim, thanks for your excellent support and the great product that you provide to all of us the better run our businesses. I like to remind everyone, these big companies have only one goal, it's putting up the numbers, here at Sytist and Saratogahosting, it's not about the numbers, it's the quality of the product or service you get, and this is why I'll always stick with them.

William,
I appreciate your feedback. I must say that I haven't had many bad experiences with GoDaddy and I have used them for several years. Yes, it is frustrating when things don't work right and I tend to hold my expectations too high sometimes with those that I do business with. But, I also hold myself to extremely high standards with my business, so it goes hand-in-hand. As I have stated before, I am not a computer guru. From what I can see with Saratogahosting, they do not offer 24/7/365 live person customer and tech services. That would be a requirement for me. When my site is down or other issues arise, I lose money. Making the switch to Saratogahosting would probably cost me more money than just switching between hosting companies as I am sure Tim would have to make some backdoor changes for my website, which would cost me money. I also require https due to using Square for my payments and I am not willing to use anything else. I'm not sure making the move would be the best bang for my buck and I haven't even compared pricing yet.
