Exif Search And Entagged

I am currently using Entagged to write the names to the Copyright field on my R5. I then have that information copied to the Caption field since that's what Shootproof uses for their search.

From what I can tell, the standard Search option in an album/gallery is just searching the filename. Is there a way to have it search for a specific EXIF field?

Hello Matthew,

Interested in entagged and hope some answers your question.

I use Entagged with their Name List subscription and combine it with a plugin for Lightroom to copy data from one field to another and then use a saved rename function within LR as the last step. It sounds convoluted but I've got my workflow down at this point (it's four mouse clicks to do everything I need for naming files AND having information saved to specific EXIF fields). This process worked well with Shootproof as a workaround for how their system works, but I'd much rather have the ability to do something similar with Sytist as it offers album level pricing, where Shootproof doesn't.

I would use entagged if I could shoot teathered and entagged at the same time.

yeah that’s a common reason for people to not use it

If you are tethering to a laptop anyway, then you can replace its functionality with the tethering software.

Using the Passcode Photos feature (password protecting individual photos in a gallery) Sytist will look in the comment and copyright fields in addition to the title field for the password.

Important note when using this feature: In Settings -> Photo Settings, the option to treat untitled photos as group photos option has to be disabled.

Thanks Tim

So does this ONLY apply to using Passcodes?

I populate the Comment field with the subject's name, which came from Entagged and is originally in the Copyright field. After running my LR plugin, the name info is copied to several other fields (Caption, which is used by Shootproof for searching, Comment, and Title). Prior to exporting from LR, the Copyright field is overwritten with my information, and the filenames are updated using the name found in the Caption field.

For groups, these names are all added to the comment field. Meaning, if the person were to search, I want them to be able to find both their individual photos as well as any group photo they're a part of.

Yes, this only applies to using the Passcode Photos.

At one point it di search the copyright field, but there was a complaint if someone searched their copyright all the photos would show.

Is there a way to request a feature to have it search another field in the EXIF (like a check box for what field to search)? As I mentioned, Shootproof uses the Caption field, but there are several available that I think wouldn't interfere with the Passcode option.

I forgot about an option in the settings.

Sytist WILL search the copyright and comment fields as long as the option to not search those are not checked in Settings -> Photo Settings.

Photo Search Options
  •  Do not search copyright & comment fields.
  •  Do Not Search Filenames.'

So if you are just copying that information to the caption field and that information is still in the copyright field, it will search that field in a photo search in a gallery.

Thanks for that information, am leery of checking/unchecking boxes at this point!

You mention that if I'm copying the info to the caption field AND that information is still in the copyright field...........so what happens if I update the copyright information across all photos to my actual copyright info, so that unique identifier now only exists in the caption field? Will the search not provide any results?

Sytist searches the title, keywords, and optionally the file name, copyright & comment fields.

There is currently not an option to search the caption field.  I have made a note to look into it.
