Transparent Background Option For Green Screen Backgrounds?

I have an assortment of backgrounds for use w/ corporate headshots. The backgrounds are JPGs. I was hoping to put a completely transparent PNG as one of the backgrounds and allow the user to download what would essentially be the transparent PNG of the source image as well, however, I get an error when I try that. I also tried making one pixel in the transparent PNG background opaque, that didn't work either. Are PNGs not supported as background images?

The background files have to be jpg. You can upload png files to a non-greenscreen gallery and they can download the transparent png file you upload.
