Photo Cart 5 is now officially available. Existing Photo Cart owners upgrade free to the new Photo Cart 5.

* Read what’s new in Photo Cart 5
* View the demo of the new version here
* Download the upgrade
* Upgrade instructions
* Video tutorial of upgrading your Photo Cart
* Photo Cart Manual & Info
* Photo Cart FAQ
* Bug Report Thread
* Current Version & Change Log

* If you purchased Photo Cart with the installation option and need me to upgrade it, click here to request upgrade installation

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Post questions about upgrading or the changes in the Photo Cart upgrade in this topic.

* I may start taking questions posted and put in this section to keep things clean and organized, so don’t freak out if your post was deleted.

  • You will not lose any current data or customizations with the upgrade unless you have directly edited any php files

  • Cosmetically one thing you might want to address is the new add to cart table / form. Here is an explanation of the colors and where they go.

  • To change the color of the admin pages, go to Settings > Admin Settings and change the “Admin Color Scheme”. Black and white is available.

  • Official version is 5.1.2 and has changes from the last beta version. Change log

  • Possible issues after upgrading

  • Your home page changes after the upgrade. Check and see if you have an Active category (one visible to the public) that doesn't have any active galleries or public galleries in it. If you do, make that category not visible (Admin: Galleries, click category name, then the edit icon under it)

I haven't upgraded yet. I've been checking out the new version and I can't find the gallery splash page. Wasn't it included? I started using it for text to pass on gallery specific information and found it to be quite valuable. Am I just missing something? If it wasn't included, is it difficult to do so?

Thank You

Mike

PS - Great job Tim!

When I upgrade to version 5, will all my formatting (html colors, fonts, etc) from version 4.1 be carried over or will I need to reapply them? Also, will all my packages, prices, etc be carried over as well?

I can't wait to upgrade, but need to know how much work I'll be facing to get it integrated to my website's scheme.

Thanks, Tim! Great work!

Back up everything first including your database. Carefully follow the directions.

Most of the settings will stay the same & some of your old php files can still be used.
I now have a folder on my PC called "Edited files" including galleries view.php, Payment.form.1.php, payment.options.php, and blue.css
Sounds like you might want to include your style.css if you modified it.

There may be some new work opportunities for you in Pricing, Labels and Package groups.

I noticed that Tim now has a one size fits all upgrade file. All the parts you are licensed for will be made available to you when you install the package.

I just upgraded to 5.0 last night. We host with GoDaddy. This morning I received a PayPal notice that I had received a payment, but no notice from Photocart about the order being placed or that it was paid. I looked at the email history and it shows that an email was supposedly sent to me, but like I said, I never received it. I have checked junk for it. Also, the order is still not listed as paid, even though they paid with PayPal. I know this is a GoDaddy issue, but I did copy the GoDaddy files when I upgraded last night. Any thoughts?
Thanks!

GoDaddy now requires that all mails be sent from your address. In the Admin, "Settings > Mail Settings", setting "Send all emails FROM your email address?" to "Yes" should resolve the issue.

Thanks very much. That took care of the email problem. I am still unsure about the order paid status not being updated when the customer pays with PayPal. I have just switched the setting in Settings -> Payment Options to "work around non curl." Should this solve the problem?

Yes, it should. In order for PayPal IPN (Instant Payment Notification) to work, Photo Cart must be able to "confirm" the payment with PayPal. By default, it uses cURL to do that verification but some hosts don't allow cURL usage, so the non-cURL method should resolve it.

You could make a purchase yourself of something cheap (like $1) to verify it will work. Then you could either give yourself a refund or just write off the PayPal charge on the small purchase you made.

Just upgraded from version 4 and it worked perfectly. The only thing that got me concerned for a second was the overwrite warning as I up uploaded the new files via FTP. Maybe worth mentioning in the upgrade instructions.

I really like the new design and features. Great work!

How do I set up discounting on multiple prints of different images in the same size. For example, the more they purchase of a 5x7, the cheaper they become.

How do I set the quantity discount chart to automatically display or have them click to open and view.

I'm having problems upgrading. I bought ver 4 in 2007, tried to upgrade to the beta testing awhile back but had problems so I restored to the original version. Tried upgrading to the new version and when I go to mysite/photocart/upgrade.php it says I have ver 5.1 so then I tried deleting upgrade.php and going into admin but I get an error that says I'm in an endless loop. Went ahead and restored back to my original version and it's working fine for now. Did I completely mess up my cart for upgrading?

I upgraded and now I cannot log in to my admin the page just keeps refreshing. I tried the suggestion found in section
"Can't Log in, page just refreshes,"
but the setup.php file did not contain // ini_set('session.gc_maxlifetime', 1800); or // ini_set('session.save_path', $setup['path']."/sessions");

Also the client section of my photocart seems like nothing changed

Well I just upgraded to 5.1.4 with zero issues.

I was already on 5.1.2 when I deleted all files and folders (except, js, payment and setup.php) re uploaded all the missing files, folders and went into my admin and bam I was already updated.

Did not even have to run the upgrade.php file.

Might want to include that in the readme that if you are on version 5 you do not need to run that.

Back up back up backup.............. You should have a complete backup of your entire website on your PC or at least on a DVD. Don't trust your WebHost to back it up for you.

Do you have your original Zip file from PhotoCart? It is in there.

If you cannot find that, or cannot (FTP) download the working one from your website, I would suggest getting the latest version from TIM.

I tried to back it up before I began the update process but the update page wouldn't load.

Zip file? From 3 years ago? Are you kidding?

There is no "working one" on my website. That's the one I deleted.

I'm waiting for a response from Tim, but I figured someone could help me out here.

We need an email address to send it. PhotoCart messaging strips out the code to protect itself.

I tried to upgrade from 5.1.2 to 5.1.4 per the instructions, but the Photocart still says 5.1.2. I am not sure how to figure out where I went wrong.

The version number is stored in the database, so the database must not have been updated. Did you delete upgrade.php then visit any Admin page (per the instructions)?

UPGRADE INSTRUCTIONS FOR BETA VERSIONS of PHOTO CART 5
If you are currently using any version 5.0.+, unzip the upgrade zip file. Upload all of the files and folders inside the "photocart" folder to your website and overwrite existing ones (except for the upgrade.php file ... or just delete it after uploading it). Visit any page in the admin and that will complete the upgrade.

Hi, Tim. Just did the upgrade and I have to say it was pretty smooth and easy - I planned to allow half a day and it took half an hour.

Two things that I wanted to query.
1. is there any guidance/documentation on what is "new in v5" so I can browse and see if I want to tinker/try out any of the new features?

2. one of the new features, the hover-over magnify doesn't work too well in that the pictures appear going off out of the browser window. Where is the configuration for that or is that some kind of bug?

I have been using Dave's Uploader and it was working great. Last night I upgraded to 5.1.5 and it seemed to go great. This morning I tried to upload a gallery and it isn't working. I also accessed the destination folder in FileZilla, but that did not work either. Any suggestions?

1. http://www.picturespro.com/pages/photo_cart_5_manual/current_version.html

2. Are the pictures portrait? There is a know issue with verticle thumbs. Nothing can be done at this time except to scroll or turn off the preview magnifier.

Yes, apparently the 5.1.5 update of Photo Cart broke Dave's Uploader. I have a patched server component which I can provide you and plan to release an updated version of the program shortly.

Hi Tim :-)

Have recently posted topic "custom cropping" and also wanted to know about the headers and footers with the new version 5. I have downloaded a preview of an album I have created where the client can click on the pages to view the book.I pasted the code into the footer box and it worked perfectly except I don't want it to show on every single screen the client clicks into ie: their cartpage etc.. How can i set it so it only shows on their home page or log in page? Would like it to be public veiwing so clients can see what kind of Albums we design.

How can clients click to book a studio session from the login/home page? Presently have created a public gallery and gave it a pricelist with no prices just so i could add a gallery item called studio sitting. But to get to it or see it you have to click into the images . Any ideas?
Cheers, Kathy

Just upgraded to 5.1.5 from 4.1. When looking at customers shopping carts I get the following error message

Fatal Error: Call to undefined function: printthumbnail()
in /home/juliae2/public_html/photocart/admin/customers.cart.php
on line 337

Its probably something that I have done, but how do I resolve it?

I have been waiting to upgrade from 4.1 because nothing ever seems to go smoothly for me. I have followed the directions to a "T" but I get a 404 not found when I try to go to my photocart after the upgrade. Looking closely, the upgrade download did not have any folders in it - only files, so there are no new admi, bu, or layout folders. Am I missing something?? I even downloaded the upgrade again and unzipped it - still not folders.

I like the new options of the upgrade, but I find the user interface from the administrative side to be a lot less friendly than version 4. I did like the simplicity of the white much much better... there are just so many options that I'm finding it hard to navigate, especially since things have moved around.

If there is a .htaccess file in the Photo Cart base folder AND/OR in the admin folder, try renaming it(them) to something else (like htaccess.disabled). Some web server configurations don't support some expressions which can be used within a .htaccess file.

If that doesn't resolve the problem, use your hosting Control Panel to view the web server (Apache) "error log" (NOT the "access log") to see an error message indicating the exact problem.
